P156: Effect of Air Pollution on Alzheimer\'s Disease
Authors
Abstract:
Alzheimer, a chronic neurodegenerative disease, usually starts slowly and worsens gradually. It causes 60% to 70% of dementia cases. Difficulty in remembering recent events (short-term memory loss) is the most prominent early symptom. As the disease progresses, patients may have problems such as impaired language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self-care, and behavioral issues. The potential damaging effect of air pollution on the central nervous system is also investigated and there's mounting evidence of a link between air pollution exposure and neurodegenerative pathologies, especially Alzheimer's disease. Air pollution is thought to increase the risk of neurological diseases by developing neuro-inflammation, oxidative stress, glial activation and cerebrovascular damage. In animal models, contaminated particles can activate microglial cells and increase the secretion of IL-6, IL-1b, and TNF-a, leading to neuro-inflammation. Also, exposure to complex mixtures of air pollutants produces inflammation in the upper and lower respiratory tract and causes systemic inflammation; As a result, neuro-inflammation and neuropathology then lead to Alzheimer. In polluted regions, we expect a higher level of systemic inflammation, prefrontal white matter hyper-intensities, and hallmarks of Alzheimer.

Development disorders may be arisen from the unavoidable maternal exposure to particulate air pollution during the prenatal life that can be affected not only periconceptional period but also postnatal life. A kind of chemical material categorized as air pollutants are present in the urine, blood and semen of exposed men and may decline sperm count and affect sperm quality. Environment toxic ca...

Ambient environmental air pollutants include gaseous and particulate components. In polluted air, especially particulate matter seems responsible for cardiovascular complications: It consists of a heterogeneous mixture of solid and liquid particles with different diameters ranging from large thoracic to ultrafine particles, with a diameter <100 nm. Ultrafines can penetrate deeply into the lung ...
full textInfluence of Air Pollution on Respiratory Disease
A large number of individuals live in areas of poor air quality, especially in urban environments. Such residency is linked with the exacerbation of asthma, respiratory morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and increased risk of viral respiratory infections. Recent studies, again particularly in urban areas, suggest a role for air pollution in th...

15 صفحه اولTeleworking Effect on Traffic and Air Pollution
Traffic congestion is one of the foremost problems confronted by the urban and suburban tenants of today. Traffic congestion increases vehicle emissions and degrades air quality. Urban planners and policy makers have consequently been always investigating choices to alleviate traffic congestion and to enhance air quality. Teleworking is one option that has received significant consideration and...

Background & Aims of the Study: Lung is directly exposed to surrounding air and existing pollutants to perform its natural task. In this paper, COPD cases attributed to NO2, O3, and SO2 were studied based on assessed data in Ahvaz city of Iran during 2014-2015. Materials and Methods: Data were processed by Excel through steps including temperature and pressure correction, progra...
